ok fuck it we are making the solarfuge. a 3 season minimum viable climate controlled mobile habitat designed to be constructible by anyone with some tools from harbor freight, materials from home depot or similar, and tech/gear from amazon. i don’t know the exact costs yet but it will be based on my learnings from off-grid "techno prepping" living in either a prius, honda element and camper van on and off over past years and most recently for 1+ years urban car dwelling in los angeles. the prius is actually pretty awesome as a platform for what it is but it isn’t perfect and obvi even with a near-junk one that runs thousands plus you have to keep it passing smog, etc.
idea is for it to be as lightweight as possible while maximizing livability, connectivity while keeping low. Pareto principled as always.
anywhere ppl won’t both you, i want the solarfuge to provide safe shelter for one person. layout/standard of living inspired by a First Cabin "premium economy" class combined w/ those bike campers that are popping up . should be able to put in a truck bed, tied to roof or shove in SUV truck w/ seats down for transport.
climate control powered by cheap chinese heat pump. power system will be a cheap "solar generator" w/ roughly 200w of solar (ideally the optivolt.com 100w 24v ones). frame/shell will be insulated polycarbonate panels. bathroom facilities will depend on user preferences. will add options later. water will be plastic jug storage w/ crank pump/filter. fridge for necessities that need to be cold (meds/peptides or key food items) will be small but efficient amazon fridge. will have shore power plug as well as adapter to charge battery from a level 2 EV charger. ideally will figure out cheap base for car or bike towing as well as level-capable legs for placement on ground.
i’ll be updating the parts list, diagrams, etc here. join me in discussion on this telegram channel if interested: https://t.me/solarfuge
